Since 2012, London based Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have turned over £430 billion for the UK economy and grown to populate 99.8% of the city’s private business sector. IW Capital is only too aware of the significant growth engine SMEs provide for the UK economy, serving not only as a vital economic stimulant, but moreover, a global benchmark of entrepreneurial spirit and excellence in innovation.

To support both the progression of UK SMEs and the rise of alternative finance options for investors, the Government facilitates a selection of tax-efficient investment programmes to encourage private investment. The Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) are two of the most efficient of these programmes, focusing solely on UK early-stage businesses. EIS in particular provides a 30% tax break for investors, in addition to exemption from inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

Testament to our belief in SME talent defining the back-bone of Britain’s most prominent growth sectors lies our service offer and subsequent portfolio of case studies. We specialise in tax efficient investment programmes steered around equity investment. Since our inception in 2010 we have championed £60 million of investment over a portfolio of 20 early-stage, sector agnostic companies. See exactly how our team executes each deal and supports the investor through to exit in our new infographic here.

Following the Summer Budget and the subsequent Finance Bill in July 2015, EIS reforms were proposed in a bid to improve access to capital for investee companies and knowledge-intensive businesses. These legislative changes require expert guidance to ensure our clients’ investments fulfil their maximum potential. To demonstrate this, we have developed a new report – The Future of EIS 2015.
