Business optimism high heading toward 2022
As we approach the final few weeks of what has been a momentous year, businesses up and down the country will be preparing for 2022, with many feeling optimistic about the year ahead. Testament to this, Ipsos Mori’s latest annual report, where more than 100 top executives were interviewed, found that four in five bosses said their own business would improve in the next 12 months as the UK recovered from the pandemic. It is encouraging to see that business optimism is this high ahead of next year.
One of the keys to converting this optimism into economic growth will be the success of the UK’s small businesses who themselves have seen tremendous growth in 2021, with 56% having seen turnover growth. The support shown to SMEs will therefore be crucial, whether that be through investment or consumer purchasing power. With over 6 million SMEs in the UK, making up 99.9% of private sector businesses, the optimism of this sector will be of the utmost importance to economic growth in the UK.
With this in mind it is great to see that Small Business Saturday will once again be taking place on the 4th of December for the ninth consecutive year in the UK since it was first founded in 2010. This could not come at a better time, with optimism levels about the general economic conditions of the country reaching their highest level since the 2016 referendum.
