Happy Holidays from IW Capital

With 2021 coming to an end, all of us here at IW Capital would like to take this opportunity to wish you Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
2021 has been a truly eventful year for IW Capital’s portfolio companies, one that has seen many of them gain significant growth that serves as a testament to the exemplary entrepreneurial talent driving our private sector forward. Equally, it’s been a great year for IW Capital, despite the impacts of Covid and its variants, raising vital growth finance across many of the businesses we support, across a variety of industries. As we venture into 2022, we will continue to source and nurture world-class enterprise talent, supporting the best of the UK’s business leaders for a resilient and future facing SME economy.
IW Capital found fantastic opportunities for growth and continued to make crucial investments into SMEs throughout 2021, including the investment in e-pharmacy company SimplyMeds, marking the first external investment in the highly scalable online platform. There was also the completion of a successful investment in LAT Water Ltd. Led by IW Capital, £4.7 million was raised to accelerate LAT Water’s commercial growth in developing sustainable wastewater treatment solutions globally, following early success both in the UK and China. Alongside further investments in Olive Jar Digital, Flarin and Ubamarket, IW Capital continues to grow its portfolio and is actively looking to provide investment to give small businesses the chance to thrive.
With uncertainty surrounding the UK business sector due to the Omicron restrictions, SMEs will play a key role in the success of the economy moving forward. As SMEs account for 99% of all private sector businesses their ability to adapt and thrive is closely linked to the economy as a whole. These small businesses contribute £1.9 trillion annually to the economy of the UK, further to this, SMEs employ around 16 million people around the country, representing almost half of the employment in the UK.
While challenges do still exist for SMEs, such as staffing issues and difficulties around Brexit, IW Capital are confident that they will overcome them, being one of the most innovative and ambitious sections of the UK economy. Key to their success will be the support that the investment community shows to growing firms, especially through the Enterprise Investment Scheme.
Working with investors up and down the country IW Capital have seen tremendous demand for SME investment opportunities in 2021 and the ability to support growing firms in the sector going into 2022. IW Capital is keen to provide assistance for SMEs to help them reach the next level and is excited for what’s to come in 2022.
