IW Capital volunteers with the Felix Project

Last week the whole IW Capital team took one day each from their week to support a great charity in the Felix Project. Each member of the team spent a day volunteering for the project, either in the Felix warehouse, preparing boxes of food and produce for those that need it, or helping to make deliveries to charities and foodbanks, as well as picking up donations of food from suppliers. It was a great experience for everyone involved.
The Felix Project was founded in early 2015 to help families and children that are struggling to afford food. 1.9 million tonnes of avoidable food waste is generated by the UK food industry each year. At the same time food poverty is a huge and growing problem, almost 4 million children in the UK live in households that struggle to afford to buy enough fruit, vegetables, fish and other healthy foods.
The Felix Project provides a free door-to-door service to collect surplus food from suppliers, and deliver it to charities. They provide food for nearly 3 million meals per year, and their operation is growing rapidly. From a standing start in 2016, they currently work with around 200 charities and 200 suppliers helping disadvantaged adults and children get access to high quality food.
No one likes to see food go to waste especially seeing as people in the UK are still going hungry. The Felix Project does fantastic work to try to put this right by working with supermarkets and other suppliers, who are looking to reduce the waste that has shocked so many when we see it. Working with the Felix Project was a wonderful experience and hopefully we will see more work to help those that are in need of meals and healthy foods.
