Lucida Medical discusses the future of AI-powered cancer diagnosis on the Healthcare Today Podcast

IW Capital’s portfolio company, Lucida Medical, recently joined the Healthcare Today Podcast to discuss both the opportunities and challenges of cancer screening, and the role artificial intelligence could play in improving patient outcomes.

Lucida Medical has developed Pi, an AI-powered software platform that analyses MRI scans with expert-level performance to support the diagnosis of prostate cancer. By assisting clinicians with the interpretation of medical imaging, the technology aims to improve diagnostic accuracy while supporting more informed clinical decision-making.

Around half of cancers in the UK are diagnosed too late, while the majority of biopsies and diagnostic tests ultimately return negative results. These challenges can lead to unnecessary procedures, increased pressure on healthcare services and significant anxiety for patients.

During the podcast, Lucida Medical’s Founder and CEO, Dr Antony Rix, explores the current limitations of cancer screening and discusses how AI, when thoughtfully designed and responsibly implemented, has the potential to improve diagnosis, reduce unnecessary interventions and enhance the patient experience.
