London Tech Week highlights the strength of the UK’s AI ecosystem

London Tech Week once again brought together founders, investors, policymakers and industry leaders from across the technology sector, providing an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of innovation.

Among the highlights of the week was the launch of Tech Nation’s latest report, 2026: The Next Wave of UK AI, which shines a spotlight on the businesses helping to drive the UK’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence ecosystem.

For those working within the sector, the report provides further evidence of the scale and momentum behind UK technology. The UK tech sector has now reached a combined market valuation of $1.6 trillion, with AI businesses accounting for around a third of that value. Meanwhile, $255 billion was added to the UK AI sector in the past year alone, and AI startups secured more than $11 billion in venture capital investment during the first half of 2026.

The report also recognised MAGIC AI, one of IW Capital’s portfolio companies, as part of the next wave of businesses helping to shape the future of AI in the UK.

Founded by Varun Bhanot, MAGIC AI is applying artificial intelligence to create highly personalised fitness experiences, demonstrating how AI can be used to transform everyday consumer experiences. Recognition from Tech Nation reflects the progress the company has made as it continues to scale and establish itself within one of the most exciting areas of the technology market.

As part of London Tech Week, Varun joined fellow founders and industry leaders to discuss what it takes to build and grow a company with AI at its core. As adoption accelerates across industries, conversations like these are becoming increasingly important, helping to separate genuine innovation from short-term hype and highlighting the realities of scaling AI-led businesses.

The week also provided an opportunity to explore how the venture capital landscape is evolving alongside these technological advances. IW Capital Investment Director Isobel Egemole joined Bryan Kim of Andreessen Horowitz and Mike Collins of Alumni Ventures for a discussion on the changing role of value-add in venture capital and what founders should expect from investors beyond funding.

A key theme throughout the discussion was that great investors create value through partnership. Effective board members are often those who ask the right questions at the right time, helping founders navigate challenges and make better strategic decisions. The panel also explored how boards should move beyond retrospective reporting and instead focus on the future, providing founders with the confidence and support needed to execute their growth plans.

Another important takeaway was the value of relationships. For founders evaluating potential investors, capital is only one part of the equation. The ability of an investor to facilitate introductions and build meaningful connections with future funders, customers, partners and acquirers can be just as important as the investment itself.

At IW Capital, this philosophy sits at the heart of how we work with our portfolio companies. Our role extends beyond providing capital; we aim to support founders with strategic guidance, access to our network, meaningful introductions and practical support as they scale their businesses.

London Tech Week served as a reminder of both the strength of the UK’s innovation ecosystem and the importance of collaboration between founders, investors, policymakers and industry leaders in helping ambitious businesses realise their potential.
