Lucida Medical’s Prostate Intelligence Shows Real-World Impact in Clinical Practice

New real-world evidence has highlighted the impact of AI once it becomes part of routine clinical practice, with a study showing significant improvements in prostate cancer detection following the implementation of IW Capital portfolio company Lucida Medical’s Prostate Intelligence (Pi™).

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and accurate diagnosis is critical to ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time. MRI plays a central role in the diagnostic pathway, but interpreting scans consistently and accurately remains a challenge. This is where AI has the potential to make a meaningful difference.

The study, presented at ESUR 2026, examined prostate MRI reporting before and after the implementation of Pi™, Lucida Medical’s AI solution designed to support the prostate cancer pathway. Researchers compared 250 cases reported before Pi™ was introduced with 250 cases reported using it.

The results were striking. Biopsy-confirmed significant cancer detection rose from 28% to 40%, while the number of negative biopsies fell. The study also found no clear evidence of automation bias, the risk that clinicians rely too heavily on an AI system’s output rather than their own judgement.

Together, these findings point to clear benefits for both patients and healthcare systems. Higher detection of significant prostate cancer means fewer missed cases, helping ensure that the men who need it can benefit from monitoring or treatment. Fewer negative biopsies, meanwhile, mean fewer patients undergoing unnecessary invasive procedures, reducing anxiety for patients and easing pressure on clinical resources.

Importantly, this evidence comes from routine clinical practice rather than a controlled trial setting. As healthcare providers look to adopt AI more widely, real-world data showing how these tools perform in everyday use is increasingly valuable in demonstrating their true impact.
